Dear Runners,
Due to the challenges we’ve been faced with because of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we have decided there will not be an in-person race on Sunday, May 3, 2020. We have been closely following the recent developments from the local, state, and national health agencies regarding COVID-19. Given the guidance of those agencies, it is not safe to host an in-person race on May 3, 2020. The virtual race will always be an option for those registered and we are also working with local permitting agencies to see if it’s POSSIBLE to postpone the race to a later date in 2020 but this is not a sure thing. While we do not have final answers right now, we want you to know that we are working on some options and that there will not be an in-person race on May 3rd, 2020.
As fellow runners, we empathize with your frustrations. It’s a difficult message to hear, but at this time, it is what’s best for our community and you can still use all of your hard training on the virtual race! While we won’t be able to run as a large group on May 3rd, we can still go out and run!
For those that were waiting to hear about booking travel, thank you for your patience. At this time, there is no need to book travel or hotel accommodations for May 3rd, 2020. If you booked hotel accommodations through one of our preferred hotel partners and are not planning to run, you should reach out to the hotel directly to cancel.
We will officially announce Monday, March 23rd, 2020 the final status of the 2020 race whether it will be postponed or just a solely virtual race and the other options you have as a registrant.
We want to be clear: postponing is no sure thing. We work with great permitting agencies, such as Larimer County, The National Forest Service, City of Fort Collins, and more, and they have always been accommodating for our annual race weekend. However, switching marathon dates is not easily done based on other events that have already been scheduled throughout the year. And based on the seriousness of the COVID-19, we don’t want to assume anything.
If we are unable to find another date in 2020, the in-person race will be officially canceled due to COVID-19 and we will send a list of options to those who have already registered that will include virtual race transfer, deferment, and a couple of other options.
Be safe, respectful, and take care of one another during this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding and patience regarding this difficult process.
